Join Vicky Derksen for an early morning desert hike to welcome the Winter Solstice sunrise. Experience the Sonoran Desert awakening as the shortest day of the year begins, observing how light transforms the landscape and activates the desert’s morning rhythms.

Our trail is approximately two miles round-trip on uneven desert terrain with rocks and natural obstacles requiring steady footing. The hike involves a cumulative elevation gain of 180 feet. Suitable for ages 12 and up with good mobility and fitness for desert hiking.

Bring plenty of water, wear sturdy closed-toe hiking shoes, and dress for a cold, breezy morning. The sky will be getting light, so flashlights are not necessary. We will hike even if it’s cloudy.

Location, meeting time, and other details will be sent directly to those who sign up.

This event is free, but tips are encouraged and appreciated. (Cash, Venmo, and Apple Pay are accepted.)
